Jill Scott to Star in Lifetime’s Movie Series ‘Highway to Heaven’

Jill Scott has landed another acting gig. The Grammy-winning singer will star in Lifetime’s movie series Highway to Heaven, which a reboot of the ’80s drama series. It is set to premiere November 6. 

Scott, who is also an executive producer, plays an angel named Angela Stewart who visits Earth to help people in need.

In the first installment, Angela arrives at a high school to become a temporary guidance counselor. While she works closely with the principal Bruce (played by Barry Watson), she meets a troubled student Cody and his father. They both are experiencing hardship while trying to cope with the death of Cody’s mother. As Angela makes miracles happen, Bruce is left in disbelief after learning about her divine calling.

Tanya Lopez, Lifetime’s executive vice president of scripted programming, said, “The original Highway to Heaven was appointment viewing for millions and in a time when we need those messages of hope the most, we are excited to bring back the iconic series in a new way.” 

She added, “Having worked with Jill previously for some of Lifetime’s most celebrated movies, we know she is the perfect actor to bring her passion and brilliance to this role. I just love her…Jill amplifies everything she touches in ways that make her pop off the screen. And the addition of Barry was just icing on the cake. I believe we have assembled a dynamic new duo with both Jill and Barry at the helm.”

In other acting news, Scott will play Maw Belle in the Western comedic film The Outlaw Johnny BlackShe will also star as in Ocean Ride for Laurena film inspired by a sex slave scandal from the 1920s.
