Carmelo Anthony and La La Anthony have reached a settlement in their divorce proceedings more than five years after the initial filing, according to court documents filed this week. The agreement marks the final chapter for the high-profile couple who first separated in 2017 following nearly seven years of marriage. The terms of the settlement remain confidential and are currently awaiting a judge’s final signature to officially dissolve the union.

Records indicate that the legal process was significantly prolonged, as the former MTV VJ first filed for divorce in June 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. The filing came years after rumors of infidelity surfaced, leading to a temporary split before a brief reconciliation. The couple, who became engaged on Christmas Day in 2004, held a star-studded wedding in New York City in 2010. During the course of their relationship, they became staples of the city’s social scene while Carmelo Anthony played for the New York Knicks.

Despite the end of their romantic partnership, the pair has frequently been seen together supporting their son at various basketball events. Legal experts noted that the length of the proceedings likely made certain issues, such as child support, a moot point. Their son, Kiyan Anthony, is now 19 years old and a sophomore at Syracuse University. Because he has reached the age of adulthood, child support was not a factor in the final settlement terms presented to the court.

Kiyan is currently following in his father’s footsteps by playing for the Orange, the same program where Carmelo led the team to a national championship in 2003. While the legal battle is drawing to a close, La La Anthony has recently signaled her readiness to move on to a new chapter in her personal life. During a recent appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the “Power” actress shared that she is officially ready to begin dating again. She described this period of her life as her “season of being open” to new experiences and connections.

When discussing what she looks for in a potential partner, the 44-year-old actress said she values someone who enjoys adventure and meaningful conversation. “I am being open to whatever God has for me, whatever life has for me,” she said during the interview.

Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star, officially retired from professional basketball in 2023. Throughout the divorce process, both parties have largely refrained from public disparagement, choosing instead to focus on co-parenting their son. The finalization of the settlement will formally end the case filed in 2021.
