Musiq Soulchild, Hit-Boy Share New Song ‘Beat of a Slow Dance’
Musiq Soulchild has returned with “Beat of a Slow Dance,” his first proper single in six years.
Produced by Hit-Boy, “Beat of Slow Dance” finds Soulchild ready to embark on a new love journey but doesn’t want to rush the process. Instead, he wants to embrace every step of the way
“My heart beats just like the speed of a slow dance / One step at a time / That’s how we should take this romance / Around this tempo / Steady and sure like a slow dance / The rhythm of my feelings rock back and forth like a slow,” Soulchild sings.
“Beat of a Slow Dance” is the lead single from Musiq Soulchild and Hit-Boy’s joint album, Victims & Villains. The 14-track project will release March 10 on SoulStar Music Company. It will include one feature from Soulchild’s alter-ego, The Husel, which he first introduced in 2015.
In an interview with JayTek on Audacy’s V-103, Soulchild shared the inspiration behind his upcoming album. “Basically, the topic is anybody can be the victim or the villain. It’s a matter of perspective. Some people think they’re the victim when they’re really the villain,” Soulchild said.
He added, “It’s all a matter of details and paying attention to the things happening. It’s just a conversation piece that I want to introduce people to think differently about what’s happening in relationships.”
Victims & Villians is the follow-up to Soulchild’s 2017 double album, Feel the Real.
“I kinda wanted to do the whole Feel the Real thing because this love thing, this romance thing, this relationship thing, this interpersonal intimate thing we deal with it’s all about how you feel. You can’t think your way through it,” Soulchild told HipHollywood.
Soulchild is supporting Kem and Ledisi on their Soul II Soul Tour, which concludes May 12 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
