Maxwell has the number-one R&B song in the country, as “Off” takes over the top spot on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It’s his eighth number-one single on this chart, tying him with Charlie Wilson with the most chart-toppers among male artists.

Prior to Maxwell’s ascension, he last registered a smash of this caliber in 2016 for “Lake By The Ocean.”

The Grammy-winning song spent ten weeks atop the chart. Later that year, he almost closed in on another leader for “1990x.” Both songs are lifted from blackSUMMERS’night, volume two of his trilogy.

Maxwell scored his first hit single in 2001 for “Lifetime,” taken from his third studio album, Now. The tune topped the chart for 15 consecutive weeks.

On the subject of blacksummers’NIGHT, Maxwell said in a press statement last year that the third and final set is expected to come out sometime this spring. Also, in that announcement, he revealed it would be released under his Musze, Inc. imprint in partnership with BMG.

“I’m looking forward to this next chapter and new partnership with my label Musze/BMG and all that we can accomplish together. The sky is the limit,” said Maxwell after parting ways with his longtime label home Columbia Records.

“Off,” which is also number one at R&B radio, serves as the lead single from Maxwell’s highly anticipated album blacksummers’NIGHT. It’s unclear if his previous 2018 single “Shame” will make the final tracklist. That single marked his 14th top 10 single on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, peaking at No. 8.

Maxwell, who carried home the Legend Award at last year’s Soul Train Awards, launched a second line of limited-edition, luxury sunglasses with STATE Optical Co.

At the moment, Maxwell is bringing down the house across the nation on his NIGHT Tour. Joe and Anthony Hamilton join as special guests.
