John Legend’s ‘A Legendary Christmas’ Now Certified Gold by RIAA
John Legend continues his annual sweep of RIAA awards. The EGOT winner’s holiday album A Legendary Christmas is now certified gold for selling 500,000 equivalent units.
It’s Legend’s fifth project to earn an RIAA certification. His best-selling albums in the U.S. are Get Lifted and Love in the Future. Both LPs, released under GOOD Music and Columbia Records, are 2x multi-platinum for reaching sales of over two million equivalent units.
Legend’s other certified albums include 2008’s Evolver (platinum) and 2006’s Once Again (platinum).
A Legendary Christmas was released on Oct. 26, 2018. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart and No. 26 on the Billboard 200 chart. It eventually peaked at No. 22 on the latter chart.

In 2019, A Legendary Christmas was reissued with a deluxe edition that contained four new tracks, including “This Christmas” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” featuring Kelly Clarkson.
A Legendary Christmas recently spawned a gold-selling song, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).” Produced by Raphael Saadiq, the seasonal remake reached No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the week of Jan. 4, 2020. It peaked at No. 30 on Billboard’s Holiday Streaming Songs chart in December 2019.
Last year, Legend collected nearly a dozen new album and single certifications, including a 14x multi-platinum update on his 2014 smash single “All of Me.”
In May 2022, Legend announced his then-untitled studio album, LEGEND, and released the JID-assisted “Dope” as its first single that month.
He followed with the Muni Long-guested “Honey” as its second official single. That sweet collaboration peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart shortly after LEGEND arrived in September on Republic Records.
Featuring collaborations with Jazmine Sullivan, Ledisi, Rick Ross, Amber Mark and more, LEGEND debuted at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart.
Most recently, Legend performed “Wonder Woman,” a song from the album, for Vevo. He also performed two special Valentine’s Day concerts in Los Angeles, California, dubbed An Evening With John Legend.
Before that, on Feb. 8, he released LEGEND (Solo Piano Version), which features piano-based renditions of select songs from LEGEND.
