On Monday, the United States celebrated the annual Juneteenth holiday, which celebrates the June 19 date from 1865, when enslaved Black Americans found out about the official end of slavery by Major General Gordon Granger. Juneteenth finally became an official holiday in the United States in 2021.
Furthermore, CNN went on to hold their second annual “Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom” concert, on Monday night. The event was held by CNN’s Sara Sidner, and kicked off at 8pm ET. CNN initially confirmed this concert last month, as it’s produced by LiveNation Urban and Jesse Collins Entertainment
This was held at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre in Griffith Park. As a result, performances went on to be held by stars such as Chlöe Bailey, Coi Leray, Nelly, Miguel, SWV, Davido, and much more. During Bailey’s performance, she also included a Tina Turner tribute, by covering the classic “What’s Love Got To Do With It” song. Turner suddenly passed away, last month.
