Most of the Juneteenth celebrations are taking place on June 17, 2023. Two years ago, the US Senate voted to make Juneteenth a national holiday. Since 2019, there have been increasing discussions raising awareness on the holiday. This is a very special celebration and the representation is very big for the culture going forward. One woman asked a question about it and she’s gotten a lot of attention on social media for it. She asked if she is allowed to take a White man to a Juneteenth event she is going to.
Given how relations between the different groups have gone, this is a sore subject. There are many who get frustrated with everything having to be shared with other communities. However, the dream had by Martin Luther King, Jr. was that everyone could partake and celebrate together. While that is a great concept in theory, it doesn’t always work well in practice. As a result, there seems to be lingering debates, but no true progression.
On Twitter, a Black woman asked a question about her Juneteenth celebration. Apparently, she is currently involved with a White man. After all, she went on Twitter to ask if she is allowed to bring a White man to a Juneteenth party. Again, the tensions between ethnic groups make this a dicey question. However, the woman said her question was serious. In turn, she has gotten millions of people to view her question.
