Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige Lead 2022 Soul Train Awards Nominations
The 2022 Soul Train Awards nominations have been announced. Among the top nominees are Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige, who both received seven nods, including Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.
The two R&B icons also secured Album of the Year considerations for their respective 2022 albums, Good Morning Gorgeous and Renaissance.
Blige’s recent album includes the empowering chart-topping title track, which is nominated for countless trophies such as The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award and Video of the Year.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s Billboard Hot 100 smash “Break My Soul” is up for The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award, as well as the fan-favorite “Church Girl.”
Ari Lennox, who recently released her sophomore album age/sex/location, follows with six nominations. Included in those nods are Song of the Year and Video of the Year for “Pressure.”
The song, co-produced by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Elite, soared to No. 1 on the R&B charts. It also was certified gold with over 500,000 equivalent units sold.
Interestingly, Lennox’s new album age/sex/location was not nominated for Album of the Year. However, her surprise EP Away Message received a highlight.
Chris Brown received five nominations for his Breezy era, including Best Dance Performance for “We (Warm Embrace)” and “Call Me Crazy Every Day.” The latter, Wizkid-assisted tune was sent to urban radio as the next single.
Other nominees include Chaka Khan, Silk Sonic, Maxwell, Muni Long, PJ Morton, Tank, Steve Lacy, Queen Naija and many more.
The 2022 Soul Train Awards will be taped on Sunday, Nov. 13, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will air Sunday, Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. ET on BET and BET Her. The awards ceremony will be hosted by comedian/actor Deon Cole.
“Hosting the Soul Train Awards is a dream come true. I grew up watching Soul Train and ‘til this day, I’ve never met a Soul Train Line I didn’t bless with my skilled two-step,” says Cole.
“It is truly a privilege to be given this opportunity to celebrate Don Cornelius’ legacy, all of the amazing Black talent that illuminated our screens on the iconic TV show, and my favorite genres of music: Soul, R&B and Hip Hop.”
