August Alsina Releases New Album ‘Myself’
Two years after The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy, August Alsina has returned with his fourth album, Myself, via his imprint Shake The World.
The title of Alsina’s new album reflects the current focus track, which has a lyrical theme of struggle and vengeance. The title track arrived with a music video directed by Mark Gonzales a.k.a. MarkMark.
Myself includes the lead single “Lied To You,” plus another previously released track, “Weekend,” featuring rising rapper Deeno and Zu. Quality Control Music singer Layton Greene also makes an appearance on the track “On Me.”
Alsina co-produced the Myself song “Rules” with frequent collaborators, The Exclusives. Other album producers include Ayo Bleu, Romano, Losaddos, GStylesOnTheTrack and more.
Before releasing Myself, Alsina shared two standalone singles last year, including “Shake The World” and “Beautiful Way.” Neither appears on Myself, but they are still available on streaming services.
Alsina’s last album, The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy, was released in June 2020. The album included features from Lil Wayne, Juicy J, Tink, Yo Gotti and Darrel Walls.
A month later, Alsina unleashed the viral track “Entanglements” featuring Rick Ross.
In February, Alsina scored a new award from the RIAA. “P**n Star” is certified gold after reaching U.S. sales of more than 500,000 equivalent units. It’s the seventh song from Alsina’s debut album, Testimony, to be awarded a certification.
