SZA didn’t hesitate to praise Lamar, calling him a “genius” and lighting up at the suggestion of a joint project. “I would love that,” she shared. “I think it would be amazing.” She highlighted his enigmatic nature as a hallmark of his brilliance, noting that his elusive approach keeps even collaborators in the dark about his process.

“Part of his genius is him being so mysterious,” SZA explained. “I don’t know what’s happening as much as you don’t.” She recounted moments during their sessions when Lamar’s surprise decisions elevated their work, describing how his spontaneity during the creation of his GNX album last year left her in awe. “When [songs like] ‘Luther’ came out, I said, ‘Okay, that’s the vocals we’re using, period,’ and same with ‘Gloria.’”

For SZA, working with Kendrick Lamar has been transformative, shaping what she calls her “fumbling” era—a period of experimentation and growth. “He’s been a huge part of me finding my way,” she admitted. “I’m learning to trust his expertise. He’s so good at saying yes to opportunities while staying grounded. I’m just like, teach me, sensei.”

Fans have eagerly embraced the duo’s latest collaboration, “30 For 30,” which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and amassed over 50 million streams in its first week. The track has also topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and garnered millions of views on YouTube, proving the pair’s undeniable chemistry.

With SZA nearing the end of her contract with TDE, completing two more albums, the anticipation for a potential joint project with Lamar is at an all-time high. As their collaborative energy continues to captivate audiences, the possibility of an album featuring these two creative powerhouses feels both inevitable and deeply exciting.
