Jadakiss & Hasan Minhaj Collaborate for Unique Cultural Confluence
It is always refreshing to witness artists and public figures leverage their platforms to venture beyond the music industry, establishing businesses that serve as authentic extensions of their personal passions. Jadakiss, a titan of hip-hop, has successfully transitioned into the world of entrepreneurship as the proud owner of Kiss Cafe. Now, he is taking his venture a step further through a unique cultural confluence in collaboration with comedian and cultural commentator Hasan Minhaj.
Jadakiss launched Kiss Cafe alongside his father, Bob Phillips, and his son, Jaewon Phillips, nearly four years ago, with a mission to celebrate family values and a shared love for high-quality coffee. Simultaneously, Hasan Minhaj has been instrumental in the growth of Kolkata Chai Co., a brand co-founded by brothers Ayan and Ani Sanyal. This partnership has been a pivotal moment in highlighting South Asian influence globally, specifically by honoring the cultural roots of traditional chai.
The two cultural connoisseurs have now unveiled an exciting collaboration: the Kiss Cafe x Kolkata Chai “Instant Classic” bundle. This curated collection features Kiss Cafe’s signature medium-dark arabica blend, Kolkata Chai’s smooth chai concentrate, and a professional-grade barista-style handled frother. The bundle even includes a recipe for a signature “Dirty Chai,” allowing fans to experience the best of both worlds at home.

To commemorate this rare cultural inter-mingling, the brands hosted an exclusive block party at the Kolkata Chai Co. storefront on 60 Kenmare St. The event served as a vibrant showcase where fans could sample drinks inspired by the collaboration. The atmosphere was elevated by performances from DJ Sharad of The Heavy Hitters and rapper Anik Khan, with Jadakiss himself in attendance. The event drew a notable crowd, including CJ Wallace and Dave East, who came out to support the fusion of coffee and tea culture.
Reflecting on the partnership, Hasan Minhaj shared a nostalgic perspective on his connection to the legendary rapper. “My earliest memory of Jadakiss is, funny enough, The Lox’s ‘Money, Power, Respect’ video. That was my introduction to The Lox, Jadakiss, DMX. I was in the eighth grade… I brought a CD from Tower Records, and it was the explicit ‘Money, Power, Respect’ CD single,” Minhaj recalled. This collaboration stands as a testament to how shared passions can bridge different creative worlds.
