Hayley Williams unveiled the second Petals for Armor installment on Tuesday (April 21), just a few weeks before her debut solo album of the same name drops Atlantic Records on May 8.

The five-song installment includes a new single, “Dead Horse,” which details the feelings of betrayal after ending her longterm relationship. “I said I beat it like a dead horse, I beat it like a drum / Oh, I stayed with you too long / Skipping like a record, I sang along / A shitty never-ending song,” she chants in the chorus.

The heavy feeling is especially captioned in the intro, where Williams is heard telling presumably her producer Taylor York: “Alright, it took me three days to send you this, but sorry, I was in a depression. But I’m trying to come out of it now.”

Petals for Armor II also includes previously released tracks “My Friend,” “Over Yet,” “Why We Ever,” and “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris,” featuring singer-songwriters Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. It follows last month’s first installment, which included “Simmer,” “Leave It Alone” and “Cinnamon.”

Petals for Armor is available for pre-order here. Listen to the new collection, including “Dead Horse,” below.
