H.E.R.’s ‘Damage’ Certified 2X Multi-Platinum by RIAA

H.E.R.’s 2020 single “Damage” continues to impact the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). 

The Herb Alpert-sampled track has been certified 2x multi-platinum by the RIAA with more than two million equivalent units sold. The emotional tune, which has 97 million streams on Spotify, first reached platinum status last May. 

H.E.R.’s latest RIAA award marks her fourth certification in 2022 alone.

The Grammy-winning singer, who was recently honored with the Impact Award at Billboard Women in Music, collected two gold plaques for her contribution to Chris Brown’s “Come Together” and Jazmine Sullivan’s “Girl Like Me.”

“Focus,” lifted from H.E.R.’s Vol 1 EP, was certified 2x multi-platinum in February. She now has a total of six multi-platinum singles, including “Slide” featuring YG (3x), “Best Part” featuring Daniel Caesar (5x), “Could’ve Been” featuring Bryson Tiller (2x) and Jhené Aiko’s “B.S.” featuring H.E.R. (2x).

“Damage” appears on H.E.R.’s Grammy-nominated debut album, Back of My MindThe 21-track LP features guest appearances from Chris Brown, Ty Dolla $ign, Thundercat. 

Rated R&B ranked Back of My Mind at No. 5 on its 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 list. Keithan Samuels noted, “Back of My Mind is a conscientiously crafted album that finds H.E.R. sorting through her range of emotions. It’s easily one of the most dynamic debut projects of the year.”

On April 9, H.E.R. will launch the second leg of her Back of My Mind Tour in Honolulu, Hawaii. Rising singer Marzz will serve as the opening act. 

H.E.R., who was recently named global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, is set to make her acting debut in The Color Purple musical film. The Oscar and Grammy winner will play Squeak, initially played by Rae Dawn Chong in 1985. 

Fantasia and Halle Bailey will also star in the Blitz Bazawule-directed film. 

According to Warner Bros., The Color Purple is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 20, 2023.
