Drake Honours Late Friend Anthony "Fif" Soares With New Cover Art
It’s been more than two-and-a-half years since OVO affiliate, Anthony “Fif” Soares was fatally shot in September 2017, but his memory has been kept alive by his loved ones, including Drake. The rapper dropped his latest project, Dark Lane Demo Tapes, a compilation of both previously leaked joints as well as new tunes, at midnight on Friday, and he used the opportunity to honour the memory of his late friend. While a very mysterious and borderline creepy photo of a semi-masked Drake solely serves as the tape’s cover art, the artwork on the back includes the tracklist, title, and a yellowed, faded photo of Fif.
Fif was gunned down and killed by two men inside a Toronto Community Housing building on September 14th, 2017 at the age of 33. He was survived by his girlfriend and young daughter, and his murder remains unsolved to this day. Three days after his death, Drake immortalized his late friend by inking himself with an image of Fif along with the words, “FOREVER FIF.” He also had a custom chain made in March 2018 to honour Fif’s memory. The iced-out diamond and gold piece has “50” engraved on the front, and “Rest In Peace Anthony Soares GSOAT” on the back, along with a 6God logo.
