Blacc Sam Honors Nipsey Hussle’s Legacy With ‘Marathon Burger’
Blacc Sam, the older brother of Nipsey Hussle, revealed why he’s opening up a restaurant in honor of his death. Dubbed “Marathon Burger,” the restaurant is a call back to Nipsey’s Marathon brand and its tagline, “The journey continues.” He tells KCAL News that Nipsey was dedicated to inspiring the community around him.
“I think [the] Marathon brand, [which] [was] created by Hussle to kinda like inspire and motivate.” He continues: “It just means to keep going. It’s not a race; it’s a pace,” and why it’s important to “do it on your own.” He adds, “Anything that we can continue doing in that spirit is always a blessing.”
The establishment plans to serve its famous burgers, wings, and more. He also shared some of the restaurant’s vegan-friendly options, like a plant-based or portobello mushroom burger, grilled vegetable salad, and more.
The Inspiration for opening the Restaurant Stemmed From An Early Age for the two brothers, Blacc Sam Says
Samm also reveals to KCAL that he plans to run the business and roll up his sleeves to help in the kitchen. He recalls that he and Nipsey spent time working in a restaurant in their younger days and says it spurred their desire to have one of their own. “We was always like, ‘Man, when we get right, it’s time we get a restaurant, [because] we already know how to run it.”
It’s been nearly six years since the passing of Nipsey Hussle. For Blacc Sam, his 2019 death changed his life forever. Last August, he revealed to Big Boy TV what he thinks led to the shooting. While he agrees Eric Holder — who’s currently doing a sentence of 60 years to Life — is the shooter, someone else is holding the strings. As Sam explains, whenever Nip was present at the store, security protocols were tight.
“Somebody [would] come to the shop, they know we in the doorway,” he began. “When Hussle pull up, we in the doorway. You’re gonna see me with a hoodie on, and I got a pistol on me. You’re gonna see one of my team members in the hoodie in the doorway with a pistol. However, on March 31, 2019, things went awry, he says. “Why the n*gga in there didn’t follow the protocol? I wasn’t there. Why they didn’t follow it? Maybe they was f*cking around, helping a customer who was doing some f*cking customer service. This is what I’m thinking…”
