Ashanti Still Mouring Irv Gotti In Spite Of Their Issues, She Says
Ashanti recently sat down with Angie Martinez on her IRL(In Real Life) podcast and addressed her complicated relationship with the late Irv Gotti. The singer reveals it was “a lot to process” following the news of his passing. She adds, “It was a lot of different feelings and emotions. I think, honestly, what I said is how I feel. Ashanti had been referring to an Instagram post she shared in honor of his memory.
“I was really sad…and I’m still sad it ended like this. Because there was a time when everything was jus like amazing.” The John Tucker Must Die actress says “in her heart” she always desired to squash the tension between her and the former Murder Inc. CEO before his untimely death. “I wished peace for him…I prayed for him to be at peace.”
“We Made History Together,” Ashanti Says
“You don’t really see this coming,” she continued. “It really just came out of nowhere.” Martinez then asks if they would’ve rekindled their relationship if not for his death. “I really wanted to happen,” Ashanti says. “Like I said, we made history together [and] that is infinite.”
On Feb. 5, Gotti’s family confirmed his death in an Instagram post. The record executive had been battling health issues over the last few years. His brother, Chris, reveals that the two strokes he suffered exacerbated his symptoms of diabetes, which he was diagnosed with in his 40s. Chris says he refuted suggestions from health professionals and couldn’t face the truth about his health condition. That said, he does believe Irv went out on “his terms.”
