Ashanti has a lot going for herself these days. Aside from her many acting gigs in the works, the R&B veteran has secured ownership of her masters. She shared the news during an interview on the Tamron Hall Show

“It’s so surreal,” she told Hall virtually. “I have an amazing legal team, and I got my first record deal when I was 14 years old. So understanding and seeing how things have changed so much from then to now and conceptually understanding what you’re signing is so imperative and so important nowadays.”

Following the announcement, Ashanti also revealed that she is re-recording her self-titled debut album, which was released in 2002 and won the inaugural Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2003 Grammys.

She’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album next year, during which she will have received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Circling back to Ashanti’s growing acting resume, on October 19, Ashanti is starring in the live-action film Honey Girls. Her next big role is The Plus One, a romantic comedy she will star and produce. Production starts in Florida in December.

Ashanti last released new music in January after her Verzuz battle with Keyshia Cole. The song, “2:35 (I Want You),” is now close to 4.2 million plays on Spotify.
