Fans of Ari Lennox will have to find comfort in waiting a bit longer for her untitled second album.

The Washington, D.C. native has revealed that she is nearing completion of her follow-up to 2019’s Shea Butter Baby, declared the best R&B album that year by Rated R&B.

“I need like 4 more songs and the album done,” wrote Lennox on Twitter on Monday (Jan. 17) afternoon.

When grilled about the arrival of her sophomore album, Lennox replied, “no timeeee soon.”

Lennox continued to throw out album hints, teasing the anticipation felt to share a song she tentatively titled “Mean Mug.”

Of that forthcoming song, she said, “It’s so pretty and I’m talkin my shit a lil bit.” She later dropped a snippet of it. Listen to it below.

While Lennox thought she had more work cut out in the studio, she seems to have convinced herself that what’s she’s recorded so far makes for a solid album.

“Damn I might have the 10 songs,” she tweeted Wednesday (Jan. 19) evening.

Last September, Lennox released her first solo track of 2021, “Pressure.” Already noted as her first top ten single at R&B radio and Billboard Adult R&B, the song, produced by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Elite, has managed to hold firm on both charts since October 2021.

Most notably, “Pressure” earned Lennox a 2022 NAACP Image Awards nomination for Outstanding Female Artist. The award ceremony airs on Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. EST on BET.

With no new single insight, Lennox continues to remain a team player, starring on tracks by Ant ClemonsKhalidSummer Walker, and Vedo, to name a few.
