Damson Idris Applauds Druski’s Viral British Actor Sketch
Damson Idris has officially given his stamp of approval to Druski’s latest viral sketch, a pointed and hilarious satire of Black British actors who have built successful careers by portraying distinctly American characters.
After the comedian shared the video on Instagram, Idris responded in the comments with a concise but enthusiastic endorsement. “You ain’t shit,” the actor wrote, punctuating the message with a string of laughing emojis.
The reaction is particularly notable given Idris’ own acclaimed résumé. The actor earned widespread recognition for his portrayal of Franklin Saint in Snowfall, a demanding role that required him to master a South Central Los Angeles accent and embody a deeply American narrative.
Druski’s sketch centers on a fictional British actor named Sampson DuBois, who is cast as an enslaved man in a prestige drama titled Release the Shackles. When a director asks him for “more American slave,” DuBois replies that he plans to emphasize the “back-and-forth banter.” The satire continues as the character attempts to navigate American media, including spoof appearances on Extra and TMZ, where he promotes a gangster role in Concrete Jungle — Volume 2.
In one of the sketch’s most absurd moments, DuBois claims, “During the filming of this role and this character, I felt oppressed, like an American slave. Like, a lot of struggle. I studied the art.” The video has resonated widely across social media, drawing praise from other industry figures such as Lil Baby, Nick Cannon, and G Herbo, while racking up over 1.8 million likes on Instagram.
By lampooning both the seriousness of awards-season acting and Hollywood’s enduring fascination with transatlantic transformations, Druski has once again struck a chord with his audience, proving that even those being satirized are willing to join in on the joke.
