Shawn Mendes Plays 'If I Can't Have You' Unplugged

Shawn Mendes is just as bored as the rest of us during the coronavirus lockdown. Except, instead of baking terrible sourdough bread or turning his bathtub into a mini-swimming pool, he’s doing his own thing. That thing, of course, is making music.

As a treat to quarantined fans, Mendes uploaded a very special acoustic rendition of “If I Can’t Have You.” Strumming an electric guitar while singing into a professional recording mic, Mendes stripped the hit song from his 2019 self-titled down to its bare bones, turning it into a breezy rock soul jam complete with a killer falsetto vocal break.

Though lady love Camila Cabello was not in the frame, the couple shared a milestone this week when 2019 video for their steamy “Señorita” video joined YouTube’s Billion Views club.
