2022 Billboard Music Awards Nominees Announced (R&B Edition)
57 After a two-year hiatus, the Billboard Music Awards is setting up shop this year at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Weeknd, who recently replaced Ye (formerly Kanye West) as a headliner at this year’s Coachella, is headed to the ceremony’s 29th edition with 17 nominations, the most of any artist this year.
His nominations span varied fields, including top artist, top male artist, and top R&B artist. Dawn FM, The Weeknd’s most recent album, is nominated for the top R&B album.
The Weeknd also entered the race in four of the five new categories: top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.), top Billboard Global 200 artist, top Billboard Global 200 Song, and top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Song. The last two nominations are for his “Save Your Tears (Remix)” collaboration with Ariana Grande.
It’s the Canadian hitmaker’s second consecutive year leading the pack, receiving 16 nods last year and carrying home ten trophies. In 2016, The Weeknd was a finalist for 20 categories, winning eight.
Givēon, who collected his 10th certification from the RIAA this week, is nominated for seven trophies, including top new artist and top R&B artist.
Silk Sonic isn’t far behind, receiving four nominations, including top duo/group and top R&B album for An Evening With Silk Sonic.
Recent Grammy winner SZA and Billboard’s Women in Music Chartbreaker Award recipient Summer Walker netted three each.
The 2022 Billboard Music Awards will take place on Sunday, May 15, at 8 p.m. EST on NBC and stream live on Peacock.
