Florida rapper YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, will remain incarcerated without bond following a recent ruling by a Florida judge. The decision, handed down by Judge Martin S. Fein, maintains that prosecutors have presented sufficient evidence to support a conviction in the ongoing double-murder case pending in Broward County.

The court’s decision follows an evidentiary hearing held on April 30 in Fort Lauderdale. During the proceedings, Judge Fein reviewed the comprehensive case file, including testimony from witnesses Audrey Gross, Nikaya Mirhadi-Pathon, Kevin Corbett, Matthew Norman, and Victor Delgado. The court ultimately deemed the testimony of these individuals credible, reinforcing the state’s position.

In his written order, Judge Fein noted that while the evidence is arguably sufficient to convict, it does not present a material contradiction that would raise a substantial question regarding the defendant’s guilt or innocence. Citing the appellate decision in Gallo v. Lamberti, the court concluded that the proof of guilt remains evident and the presumption of guilt is great, meeting the legal standard required to deny bond in capital cases under Florida law.

The ruling also incorporated previous decisions that denied bond requests in 2023 and 2025 following the initial mistrial. While the court acknowledged a December 2023 omnibus suppression order that excluded certain evidence, it clarified that it did not make any findings regarding the defendant’s alleged affiliation with violent gangs.

Jamell Demons, who turned 28 on May 1, rose to prominence in 2018 with his breakout hit, “Murder On My Mind.” He has been in the custody of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office since surrendering in 2019. As the legal process continues, the retrial for the double-murder charges is officially set to commence on January 6, 2027.
