Vince Staples Wants To Be Cast In Disney’s New Power Ranger Series
Disney+ is set to revive Power Rangers, and Vince Staples has already thrown his name into the mix for a role in the upcoming live-action series.
After learning that Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were developing the project, Staples made his interest known. On March 19, the Yeah Right rapper took to Twitter with a simple message: “Call me, [on the] dead homies.”
Fans had mixed reactions. One warned him about the so-called Power Rangers curse, referencing the troubled history of past cast members. Staples, never one to back down, fired back with, “I’ll die for what I believe in, n**ga.”
His supporters, however, were all for it. One envisioned him as a gun-toting, sharp-witted Blue Ranger. Another edited his face onto Billy Yost’s, placing him in suburban Los Angeles.
A third declared that Staples would be the second-best Blue Ranger ever, just behind Justin Stewart from Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, the 1997 film that had kids believing they could achieve anything.
According to TheWrap, Disney+ and Hasbro are collaborating to “reinvent the franchise for a new generation while keeping longtime fans engaged.” Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers rights in 2018, and this reboot marks its latest effort to revitalize the brand.
For Staples, a role in the series wouldn’t be far-fetched. His Netflix series, The Vince Staples Show, premiered in February 2024 and was renewed for a second season shortly after. Before that, he made minor appearances in Dope and White Men Can’t Jump, while also guest-starring in Insecure and Abbott Elementary. His voice work in animation has also earned praise, further cementing his versatility.
With a growing résumé in television and film, Vince Staples joining the Power Rangers universe wouldn’t be out of character. Whether he lands a role or not, his interest alone has sparked excitement, proving that his fans are more than ready to see him morph into action.
