R&B has a presence at the 2021 GLAAD Media Awards. Victoria Monét and Kehlani are among this year’s nominees at the 32nd annual ceremony, which is devoted to celebrating media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.

Monét, whose Jaguar project rounded out in the top five of Rated R&B’s 30 best R&B albums of 2020 list, is a finalist for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist. She repurposed six of the songs from the EP into classical instrumentations for the recent holiday season.

Thanks to the release of her 2020 LP, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, Kehlani scores a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist. She received a gold plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for the track “Toxic” in November 2020.

“During an unprecedented year of crises and isolation, the nominees for the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards reached LGBTQ people with powerful stories and inspired countless others around the world with bold looks at LGBTQ people and issues,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis in a press release. “As GLAAD continues to lead the fight for LGBTQ acceptance, this year’s nominees remind us that even in times of political and cultural division, diverse LGBTQ representation and visibility can enlighten, entertain, and create lasting change.”

The 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards happens virtually this April. An official date has yet to be announced. A complete list of the nominations can be found here.

The two talented stars share more than GLAAD nominations. Last October, Kehlani joined Monét for a duet version of “Touch Me.”
