Chris Brown’s celebration Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” backfired when the pop singer brought up Breezy’s past on International Women’s Day.

Earlier today, Brown shared his love for the 2001 single, which he said would be “LIT FOREVER” on Instagram. Shortly afterwards, Carlton denounced Breezy, referencing his 2009 assault on Rihanna.

“Being that today is International Women’s Day I feel compelled to draw a line,” she wrote. “I support survivors not perpetrators domestic violence. I do not want to be associated with an artist that has assaulted women on a day like today.”

Breezy was undeterred, reposting her message to say that it “was and still is a great song.” He added: “The artist felt she was doing her duty as a woman to continue to spread this kind hatred today. I won’t keep it up long. I just hope she knows she is loved and her song is great.”

Brown, who covered the song in 2011, deleted both the aforementioned posts and instead shared a clip from White Chicks, which features her single. His caption for the new post reads: “I LOVE THIS SONG.”

Carlton hasn’t rejected flattery from others. Last year, she championed Cam’ron after he sampled “A Thousand Miles” for his “10,000 Miles” single. “I thought wow, this totally works,” she told The FADER his version. “‘A Thousand Miles’ is hard to sample. People would usually only use the piano interlude part but he uses the verse and chorus piano sections too. That’s one the reasons it works so well. Also it’s a dark tale. And that juxtaposition with the seemingly light and pretty piano thing totally works.”
