The Philadelphia Eagles Win Super Bowl LIX
With a dominating performance, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 victory in Super Bowl LVII. With the loss, Kansas City came up short in becoming the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era.
Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts silenced his critics and outdueled Partick Mahomes with a near-flawless game and was named Super Bowl MVP.
Hurts threw for 17-of-22 for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also set a new Super Bowl record for a quarterback by rushing for 72 yards. Saquon Barkley adds 97 total yards, with 57 on the ground on 32 rushes.
In a post-game interview, Hurts lauded the efforts of his teammates.
“God is good. … I couldn’t be here without my teammates, the effort and determination everybody displayed to get to this point,” Hurts said after the win. “Hell of a game today.”
Capping off an incredible night, Hurts excited the game with 2:52 left and the decidedly pro-Eagles crowd cheered.
Hurts became the first player in NFL history to have at least five passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns in a single postseason.
For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns. His production came after the Eagles had the game under control. Mahomes did have two interceptions and a lost fumble. Mahomes was also sacked six times and hit 11 times. On social media, former President Barack Obama congratulated the Eagles on their victory.
“Second time’s the charm. Congrats to the @Eagles, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Nick Sirianni, and an outstanding defense for winning one for Philly,” his post read. “You earned it!”
