Summer Walker to Receive Honor at Billboard’s 2022 Women in Music Awards
Known for generating headlines for historic chart performances, Summer Walker will receive her flowers for these achievements at this year’s Billboard Women in Music Awards. She’ll be honored with the Chartbreaker Award.
Walker, an imposing diva in the Billboard stats department, came out the gate swinging and made history while she did it.
Over It, for instance, is her 2019 debut album that shattered streaming records for an R&B album by a woman after exceeding more than 154.7 million on-demand plays in its opening week.
As if that were not enough, its sequel, Still Over It, started at number-one on the Billboard 200 following its release in November 2021. This debut marked the first by a woman in R&B since Solange and her 2016 release A Seat at the Table.
Walker’s second LP also outperformed the first-week streams of its predecessor, tallying 201.1 million on-demand listens.
Other 2022 honorees include Doja Cat (Powerhouse Award), Gabby Barrett (Rising Star Award), Saweetie (Game Changer Award), Bonnie Raitt (Icon Award), and others.
Hosted by Ciara, Billboard Women in Music Awards is slated to take place on Mar. 2 in Los Angeles at YouTube Theater. Tickets, for the first time, will be available to the public. They can be purchased sometime in February.
Most recently, Walker was named the latest artist to take part in the Mindset audio series. During her segment on the wellness platform, she’ll go deeper into topics that affect her most, including social anxiety, toxic relationships, racism, and more.
