Justine Skye shines bright on her long-awaited debut album Ultraviolet.
The 10-track project boasts contributions from PARTYNEXTDOOR (“You Got Me,” “Goodlove”), Jeremih (“Back for More”), WizKid (“U Don’t Know”), and Hitmaka (“Back for More”), among others. It also showcases a new and self-assured side the R&B songstress known as the Purple Unicorn.
“This album is kind like another side me,” she told Rap-Up. “It’s the side me that you’ll see on stage, you’ll see out at a party, at the club. Just the more confident, fierce, after-a-few-drinks, saying anything on her mind, going for it. Justine Skyers is shy, nerdy, and very weird, very awkward. But this girl, on this album, is fearless.”
Much that can be credited to PND, according to Justine. “I learned a lot from him,” she said. “He opened the door to push me to sing in a tone that I didn’t normally sing in. I was kind scared. He was like, ‘You need to say things that guys would say. You need to speak like a ni**a. You gotta really get at them.’”
