Of Monsters and Men Perform Post Malone’s ‘Circles’ Like You’ve Never Heard It Before
Post Malone's Streets Talkin Hot 100 No. 1 hit "Circles" has been frequently covered since its Aug. 30 release. And now Of Monsters and Men give it their own soft spin on triple j's "Like a Version" series.
Delicate piano keys start off the recognizable melody before lead vocalist/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir whispers the first verse. Fellow lead singer/guitarist Ragnar "Raggi" Pórhallsson joins her for the dark, dramatic chorus.
Pórhallsson flies solo for the low-pitched second verse, and he harmonizes the last line ("I got a feeling that it's time to let it go, let it go") with Hilmarsdóttir in a more supple crescendo than the original tune.
The indie folk band also performed their own single "Alligators" from the 2019 album Fever Dream. The band picked things up a bit for their song, as a full swing of instruments introduce their second performance and the pulsating drum beat from Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson's machine consistently carries the rhythm. Hilmarsdóttir gets behind the keyboard this time around, contributing to the stirring-yet-snappy melody.
