Normani Says Her Dream Collaboration Would Be With Janet Jackson

Normani wants to manifest a duet with her idol, Janet Jackson.

Speaking with Galore, Normani shared connecting with Jackson on a collaboration would be a dream come true.

“I’d have to say, Janet Jackson. I feel like our tones would complement each other’s very well,” Normani explained.

“One of the greatest inspirations and representation for me has always been my mom. She has always been like ‘Girl, Janet was my Beyoncé, like you don’t even know,” she continued.

When Normani saw Jackson in concert, it left an indelible impression on her.

“I saw the Velvet Rope Tour at a young age and I probably wasn’t supposed to lol so Janet’s definitely on my wish list,” Normani added, mentioning the 1998-1999 tour.

After releasing her debut album Dopamine in February 2024, she said that Jackson has been “tremendously encouraging” to her.

“Personally, I would love to do something sexy with Janet,” Normani continued.

“Honestly, we could do a whole album! She’s so multifaceted. I can’t even tell you specifically what that one song would be. I feel like between the two of us, we could do so much.”

This isn’t the first time that Normani has expressed her desire to work with the legendary singer. In 2022, she told Yahoo! Life the impact of Jackson on her life.

“It was so important for me to have a Janet [Jackson] and have a [Beyoncé] with curves to find my place and to also know that, ‘OK, she looks like me. And she’s successful. She’s beautiful and I can do the same thing.’ Little Black me needed to see that,” Normani shared.

“Being a Black woman, just to be seen or noticed, we have to do a lot more and work 10 times as hard,” she added.
