No, Nick Lachey Hasn’t Read Jessica Simpson’s Book
‘We’ve all moved on.’
What's left of Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson's relationship? Not much, apparently. On Monday (Feb. 3), the former 98 Degrees member and his wife Vanessa Lachey addressed Simpson's new memoir, Open Book, during an appearance on Today.
"I'll be honest, I obviously haven't read the book so I don't know what she said or what she revealed there, but I'm certainly happy for her and her life. I know she's happy for us," Lachey said of his ex-wife's tell-all. "There's definitely a mutual respect there…obviously it was a long time ago; we've all moved on."
However, when host Hoda Kotb mentioned Simpson had revealed during an earlier appearance that she'd received a gift from the Lacheys recently, Nick's new wife stopped the interview in its tracks. "I feel bad, I'm sorry, you said somebody sent her…it wasn't us, but thank you whoever sent it," Vanessa said in an awkward moment that led Nick to jokingly ask, "What did you send?"
"I didn't…I don't know her address," Vanessa replied as Nick sat smiling. "But thank you whoever sent it from us."
While the two pop stars were married from 2002 to 2005, both released competing breakup records in the wake of their high-profile divorce. (Lachey's What's Left of Me — featuring singles like the hearbroken title track and "I Can't Hate You Anymore" — hit No. 2 on the Streets Talkin 200 in May 2006 while Simpson's A Public Affair debuted at No. 5 three months later.)
