Nelly Refutes Rumors He’s Performing At Trump’s Inaguration For Money
Nelly recently sat down with Willie D to discuss the decision behind his upcoming performance for Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony. While many critics called his decision a cash grab, Nelly refutes that idea. “I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this cause it’s an honor,” the “Country Grammar” rapper says. “I respect the Office.” Nelly likened himself to a soldier saying, it doesn’t matter who’s in office, and said that respect should remain.
“The same way that our men and women, our brothers and sisters, who protect this country have to go to war and have to put their life on the line for whoever in office. So if they can put their life on the line for whoever in office, I can damn sure perform.” Nelly, isn’t the only rapper who’s received criticism for his decision to perform for the controversial Presidential-elect.
Soulja Boy Fires Back at Criticism Over Set At Trump’s Crypto Ball
Soulja Boy recently hopped online to defend his decision and claims Democratic politicians like Barrack Obama and Kamala Harris never reached out to him, but Donald Trump did. “Trump putting money in my pockets, n*gga,” he said in an Instagram video. Later on, Soulja also showed off the money he received for the performance. “Muthf*ckers is trying to say something about me performing at the Crypto Ball party, [but] did Kamala call my muthaf*kin phone? Did Obama call my muthaf*ckin phone?”
At one point in the clip, Soulja Boy said that if Donald Trump were to ring him up again he would have performed for him again. Soulja Boy and Nelly aren’t the only rappers receiving heat for getting close to Trump. Snoop Dogg is also being heavily criticized for his decision to perform at the controversial soiree. The negative response he’s received is largely due in part to the several controversial comments Donald Trump made throughout his campaign — including a comment about people of Haitian descent eating “cats and dogs.“
