On Thursday, (Mar.27), Mary J. Blige took to X to make an interesting proclamation.

According to the R&B singer and icon, she’s done with being a “people pleaser.” Blige seems to be inferring that early on in her career, she was encouraged to go along with things, even if she had no interest. However, that is no longer the case. Blige looks to be standing firm on her beliefs, what ever they may be.

“Unfortunately, a lot of y’all met me when I lacked boundaries and was a people pleaser,” the singer wrote. “Let me reintroduce myself, I burn bridges as needed.” While it’s unclear what sparked this response from Mary J. Blige, it’s very clear that she’s no longer the naive girl she was at the beginning of her career.

Mary J. Blige Reveals Why She Fired Staffer

Mary J. Blige has never been one to hold back her feelings on a subject. Back in January, the singer spoke with PEOPLE  after having to fire a staffer for leaking the setlist for her For My Fans Tour.

According to Mary J. Blige, her setlist is “sacred” to her, and she’s “pissed” it’s online. “We worked too hard and the setlist is the most private thing,” she told PEOPLE. “It was unprofessional. Obviously, it was somebody within the camp, and they risked their whole life just to get a couple of likes.”

Luckily, only a portion of the setlist ended up online, and she still had a few tricks up her sleeve for fans. The set includes hits from her decades-long career, and her latest album, Gratitude. “Only a little bit got leaked, and that’s not even half. People don’t even know what else is coming.”

Blige’s For My Fans Tour kicked off on Jan.30 in Greensboro, NC, and will conclude on April 14 in Boston, Massachusetts.
