Lucky Daye’s ‘Candydrip’ Makes Top 5 Debut on Billboard’s R&B Albums Chart
Things have got off to an amazing start for Lucky Daye and his sophomore album, Candydrip.
The New Orleans, Louisiana, native’s second set with D’Mile as the principal producer has given him a top 10 entry on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart, debuting at No. 5. It marks his first appearance on this chart.
Working his way to the strong chart placements during the first week had much to do with early singles such as the Lil’ Durk-assisted “NWA” and the Musiq Soulchild-sampled “Over.”
The latter started at No. 10 on the R&B Streaming Songs chart for the March 26 issue. It’s his inaugural entry there.
Elsewhere, Candydrip, Daye’s follow-up to 2019’s Painted, landed him a top 40 slot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album also opened at No. 69 on the Billboard 200.
Daye has time for Candydrip to grow legs. He is currently the star of his own headlining tour, with Joyce Wrice as the special guest.
On April 3, Daye could gain attention from different audiences when the 2022 Grammys airs. He picked up two nominations, including Best Progressive R&B Album for Table For Two and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “How Much Can A Heart Take,” a duet with Yebba.
Additionally, Daye is part of Syd’s upcoming Broken Hearts Club album, which arrives next month.
In other news, Daye co-wrote Mary J. Blige’s hit single “Good Morning Gorgeous.” At the time of this article, the self-care anthem has topped the Adult R&B Airplay chart for four non-consecutive weeks.
