Lizzo is making headlines after a recent TikTok post where she called out the use of her song “About Damn Time” at an event associated with Donald Trump. The moment came during a military-themed celebration in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, June 14th, where a performer hit the stage with a rendition of her Grammy-winning hit. The event’s lineup included names like DJ Nyla Symone, Lee Greenwood, Scotty Hasting, Noah Hicks, and Warren Zeiders, but it’s still unclear who actually performed her track.

Lizzo reacted by sharing a video of herself looking unimpressed, pairing it with footage from the performance and captioning it “cease & desist.” It’s not confirmed whether she was joking or seriously hinting at legal action, but her reaction made one thing clear—she wasn’t happy her song was played in that setting, especially without her approval.

This isn’t the first time the singer has spoken out about her political stance. She’s been openly critical of Donald Trump’s administration and has used her platform to challenge systemic injustice. “I want real change, and I know what it takes to see real change on a systemic level,” she previously shared. “This system was built by white people to their economic benefit… White people have to come together & educate themselves… Unify.”

Lizzo has also taken aim at how Trump and his allies use social media, calling it manipulative and chaotic. “THE WHITE HOUSE IS USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO TROLL US,” she posted. “REPUBLICANS ARE TALKING OUT THEY NECKLACE TO JOURNALISTS. WE HAVE TO BE BOLDER.”

For Lizzo, whose music is rooted in empowerment and authenticity, having her work linked to a political event that clashes with her values was clearly a step too far.
