Kanye West & Wireless Festival Lose Pepsi Funding After UK PM’s Criticism
Not too long ago, Ye made it back to the headlines with his apology to the Jewish community for having made hateful remarks. He sincerely claimed that his actions were only prompted by declining mental health (on account of not being medicated for bipolar disorder), and promised to do better.
However, this has not absolved the artist of past remarks and recent developments are a sign of the same. Pepsi has officially withdrawn funding for the Wireless Festival, which has Kanye as the headliner. This comes in shortly after UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer publicly condemned the invite extended to Kanye to perform after his anti-semitic remarks and songs like ‘Heil Hitler.’
“Antisemitism in any form is abhorrent and must be confronted firmly wherever it appears,” Sir Keir said. “Everyone has a responsibility to ensure Britain is a place where Jewish people feel safe.” Kanye was to return to the UK after 11 years and headline all 3 days of the festival.
