Jonathan Majors Talks Trial, Next Career Moves + More
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Majors gets candid about his highly publicized trial, acting career, and more. Last December, the Creed star was involved in a domestic violence incident with ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Following a highly publicized trial, he was found guilty of two counts of misdemeanor assault. Since the verdict, his acting career and reputation have taken a significant hit.
Majors revealed to the outlet that in the aftermath of the trial, he’s dealt with bouts of depression but has come to feel that it’s time to take some accountability for his life’s direction. “Am I going to fall into that narrative of falling apart, of self-destruction? Have a struggle, blame the world…Have a struggle, hate yourself. Have a struggle, deny everything. None of those narratives is beneficial.”
“I was f*cked up,” Jonathan Majors says
Along with participating in a domestic violence program, Majors began therapy and reconnected with his pastor. It was there that he was able to confront the trauma of his past, in particular, with child abuse. “I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9,” Majors tells THR. “From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f*cked up.”
Majors also credits his fiancee, actress Meagan Good, for supporting him amid the controversy. As he works to rebuild his reputation, Major’s new strategy is to “Learn, metabolize, [and] grow.” On the career front, Major reveals that he’s been receiving scripts and taking meetings, most recently, one for a superhero film project in the works. “No relation to the big guys, DC or Marvel, but a pretty wicked story. I’m glad to be reading.”
In 2023, the Majors-led film Magazine Dreams — which tells the story of an amateur bodybuilder trying to make his name while helping his ailing grandfather — debuted at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, earning critical acclaim and a U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award. A bidding war was immediately sparked, and Searchlight Pictures quickly secured the film’s distribution rights. However, after he was found guilty of assault, Searchlight dropped the film. Luckily, Briarcliff Entertainment stepped in and decided to pick the film up, giving it a release date of March 21.
