The feud between Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat is finally over.

On Thursday (Feb.2) evening, the six-time All-Star was traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a top-10 protected 2025 first-round pick. Butler also has agreed to decline his $52 million player option for next season and will sign a new two-year, $121 million deal through the 2026-27 season.

Additionally, Dennis Schroder will be sent to the Utah Jazz. P.J. Tucker, who played with the Heat in 2021-22, is heading back to  Miami. Guard Lindy Waters III will also be leaving Golden State for the Detroit Pistons and Josh Richardson will go from Miami to Detroit.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Warriors sought out Butler after their attempts to acquire Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant came to a halt when he informed them he wasn’t interested in returning to Golden State. According to sources, the mega-trade would have included Butler being shipped to Phoenix and Durant heading back to the Bay Area where he won championships in 2017 and ’18.

The teams are still working on the particulars of the deal.

The trade took place while the Heat were playing against the 76ers in Philadelphia and the Pistons were hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers. Steve Kerr, head coach of the Warriors, informed his players about the trade, right before Golden State took on the the Jazz in Salt Lake City.

Both Kerr and Curry said they did not want to see the Warriors make trades out of desperation and sell off the team’s future.

Kerr spoke about it againg before he held the private meeting

“Feel the exact same way: Don’t do anything crazy,” Kerr said. “We are not in that position. I think it is important for every organization to know where they are and understand the circumstances and then you see the possibilities,” Kerr said. “Draymond, Steph, and I have talked about this privately; we have talked about this with [Warriors general manager] Mike [Dunleavy Jr.]. There is a responsibility to the organization to do the right thing and to not beg for some crazy trade that is going to put the next 10 years in jeopardy.”

After being suspended for several games, Butler’s new home in the Bay Area on his fifth stop in the league.
