Harry Styles' Howard Stern Interview on Stevie Nicks & More

Harry Styles stopped by The Howard Stern Show on Monday morning (March 2) for a wide-ranging chat about his latest album, Fine Line, his days in One Direction and more.

During the interview, the superstar spilled to the infamous shock jock that one of the first people to hear Fine Line before its December release was none other than Stevie Nicks, who Styles played the record for after taking her out for Indian food following a recent Fleetwood Mac show in London.

“It was pretty crazy. So I’d just kind of finished the record, and she said, ‘Oh I want to come hear the album.’ And she was with, like, all her ladies…a little witches coven. And then they all came back to the house and I played ’em the album,” he told Stern. “And they’re so used to living nocturnally — you know, they wake up really late and then they kind of live through the night ’cause they’re, you know, witches. So it’s getting to like 3 a.m. playing the album, I’m like, ‘I’m kinda tired’ and they’re, like, right in their prime. They’re really like, ‘Oh this is like daytime for us.'”

Styles also revealed the advice Nicks offered during the impromptu, all-night listening session — despite the fact that the “Adore You” singer didn’t take it.

“The biggest kind of advice she’s always given me is to just do what I want to do,” he said. “So, there’s a couple bits where like, she thought the first single [“Lights Up”] was wrong and she thought a song that didn’t go on the album should’ve gone on the album. I was like, ‘Okay.’ I definitely thought about it, but…I feel like the whole point is to just do. And then actually, I guess the feeling for me becomes, ‘Okay, well, if I wanted it this way and then she told me to change it — and I didn’t — I must really want it this way.'”

Upon its December 2019 release, Fine Line debuted atop the Streets Talkin 200 to massive first-week sales, marking the highest-selling pop album by a male artist in more than four years.
