Fat Joe doesn’t know what to make of some of the current rappers today.

During an interview with Complex’s Jordan Rose, the Bronx native revealed that the modern rap scene has him confused.

“I encourage the youth, but some of the sh*t they’re doing, I just don’t know what it is,” Fat Joe explained. “I’m just really confused. I’ve sat in traffic with the youth, and I felt like they were playing devil music right next to me. I’m like, ‘Yo, what the f*ck? That’s hip-hop?’ They got some weird sh*t going.”

Rose then mentioned Joe’s interview with 6ix9ine on Tidal. The “Lean Back” rappers expressed. “That he will always “salute” rappers who are on the rise.

“I don’t know how they spiraled into this particular sound,” he said. “We got [Lauryn] Hill, we got Biz Markie, you got Eric B and Rakim. You got Nas…”

“You’re not going to open the sh*t and hear the same sh*t. And then sometimes when I’m listening, especially in New York youth, let’s just go there,” Fat Joe continued. “I’m hearing the same sh*t. It’s just the same beat, the same sh*t, and I’m like numb, like, Yo, this is crazy.”

Joe went on to say that a new rap love song with lyrics like “I’ll kill you” and “F*ck your mother” wouldn’t go over well. When asked if he could make a sexy drill song Joe replied, “That’s definitely not in the works.”

“I’ve got a love song with f*cking Babyface,” he added.”But I salute the youth and everything they do. If you’re positive, you’re getting money, you’re bringing your contributions, creativity, I love you, I’m happy for you.”

In December, the rap legend released The World Changed On Me, his 11th studio album. The LP was his first since dropping The Darkside Vol. 1 in 2010.

Along with the aforementioned Babyface,  Cool & Dre, Chris Rock, DJ Khaled, Remy Ma, Tony Sunshine, and Ty Dolla Sign make guest appearances on the album.
