Disney Channel may have boosted Demi Lovato to stardom, but with those days behind her, some of the singer’s Disney-born friendships have also fizzled.

Lovato discussed her Disney era in Harper’s Bazaar‘s May cover story, which arrived Tuesday (April 14), and revealed who is still in her life — and who is not.

“I talk to Miley [Cyrus],” she said (the two recently chatted on Cyrus’ new Instagram Live talk show Bright Minded). “She’s awesome, and I love her to death and always will, always have. But I think she’s kind of the only one from that era that I still stay in touch with.”

Unfortunately for longtime Lovatics, who may have loved her best friendships with Selena Gomez and Camp Rock costars the Jonas Brothers, that means neither are still in tact. Even so, Gomez shared a heartfelt Instagram Story post congratulating the “I Love Me” singer’s emotional performance at this year’s Grammys. But Lovato admitted she had mixed feelings about it.

“When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with her, so [the Instagram post] felt …” Lovato said, pausing herself. “I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”

Lovato made sure to clarify that she’s grateful for the opportunities her Disney era brought, adding that she wishes she had more downtime, especially to commit to her mental health and personal life. But now, she says, “I finally feel free,” and commented on how some of her more recent friendships have helped her pull through — including her relationship with Ariana Grande, whom Lovato reconnected with upon signing with Scooter Braun in 2018.

“I love the fact that Ariana and I have such a supportive friendship because it’s hard to find,” Lovato added. “Two women who are in a competitive industry—the whole world seems to want to pit women against each other, so it would be so easy to do that.”

Funny enough, Lovato’s Harper’s Bazaar interview will come somewhat full-circle on Thursday (April 16), when she and Grande will take part in The Disney Family Singalong. Each of the pop singers will perform a Disney classic (Lovato will team with Michael Bublé for “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”; Grande will sing “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” from Hercules), with several stars performing other Disney favorites.

The day after The Disney Family Singalong, Lovato is dropping a new song with pal Sam Smith, who told Harper’s Bazaar in the cover story, “I am enamored by her strength and willingness to tell her story.” Though Lovato joked that she’s “single as hell” at the moment, her friendships are the strongest they’ve ever been: “I’ve never felt more loved.”
