According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Chloe Bailey is accused of failing to compensate a songwriter and producer for his contributions to her Trouble In Paradise album. The lawsuit, which was filed on Thursday (Feb.20), also lists Columbia Records, Sony Music, and Parkwood Entertainment as defendants. Throughout the 33-page suit, Melvin Moore (known professionally as 4Rest) accused Chloe Bailey of “exploiting” him.

Moore claims that three of his contributions to the project— “Favorite,” “Might as Well” and “Same Lingerie”— were inspired by “real-life situations” and the songs were meant to reflect his “relationships, emotions, and personal struggles.” However, despite his “significant emotional and creative investment” he’s yet to be properly compensated or credited for his work.

Moore goes on to say Chloe Bailey and “others” not only “misappropriated” his contributions but also “falsely registered them under their names.” He also alleges they exploited his contributions for commercial gain across multiple revenue-generating commercially viewable platforms without authorization,” court documents read. Moore seeks $5 million in punitive damages per song and $150,000 per willful infringement.

Moore did note that he tried to resolve the situation with Bailey’s team privately, but was only met with “delays and avoidance.” At one point, his attorney sent a formal cease and desist letter with a DMCA violation notice. However, he claims that Bailey continued to promote two of the songs on her social media platforms.

He tells Rolling Stone that his journey as a songwriter has been one of “immense struggle and perseverance.” That said, despite all Moore’s overcome, he still fights for “basic fairness” when it comes to being compensated for his work. So far, Chloe Bailey nor anyone from her team has spoken publicly about the recent lawsuit filing.
