CeeLo Green Eyes Lauryn Hill for Potential Verzuz Matchup
CeeLo Green has set his sights on a potential opponent for a future installment of the popular musical battle series VERZUZ. During a recent interview, the “Forget You” singer expressed his desire to face off against hip-hop and R&B icon Lauryn Hill, citing their shared musical versatility as the primary reason for the pairing.
Appearing on the latest episode of Rickey Smiley’s “On the Spot” podcast, the 51-year-old artist described Hill as his “twin sister.” Green noted that while their relationship is rooted in a decades-long friendship, their professional similarities would make for a compelling event. He emphasized that both artists are known for their ability to seamlessly transition between rapping and singing within a single performance.

“I think I would have to be paired up with somebody who has somewhat of the same dynamic,” Green said during the interview. He reminisced about their early days in the industry, noting that the two performers shared their very first tours together. He credited their shared Gemini zodiac sign and long-standing bond as reasons why the competition would feel more like a celebration than a rivalry.
Green characterized a potential matchup with the former Fugees frontwoman as a “love affair,” suggesting the event would focus on their mutual respect and shared history. The singer also reflected on the broader cultural impact of the VERZUZ platform, which recently returned to prominence after a multi-year hiatus. During the podcast, Green and host Rickey Smiley discussed the success of recent battles, including the March showdown between R&B stars Tank and Tyrese.
Green noted that these events offer fans a rare glimpse into the “charm, charisma, and comedic timing” of their favorite artists, making the superstars feel more human to the public. The VERZUZ brand, which became a cultural phenomenon during the pandemic, was officially relaunched by Complex at ComplexCon 2025 in Las Vegas. Since the revival, the platform has hosted several notable matchups, including battles between producers Mike WiLL Made-It and Hit-Boy, as well as rappers French Montana and Rick Ross.
