J. Cole Addresses Exit From Chinese Basketball Association After Visa Issues

J. Cole has officially concluded his brief stint with the Nanjing Monkey Kings in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), marking an abrupt end to his professional basketball aspirations in China. The rapper, known for his lyrical prowess and 2014 Forest Hill Drive success, had set his sights on the court, but logistical hurdles ultimately cut the experience short.

Cole’s tenure in the league lasted for a single game, spanning eight minutes of play. While his performance drew a mix of scrutiny and curiosity from fans and critics alike, the artist remained focused on the broader opportunity to compete at a high level. Unfortunately, the complexities of international travel and documentation proved to be a significant barrier.

Addressing the situation directly, J. Cole shared a candid statement regarding his exit:

“Initially, I was scheduled to play in at least 3 games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the CBA. The work visa process took way longer than expected, so I was only able to play in one before heading home. I want to say thank you to the Nanjing club and to the CBA for allowing me to have that incredible experience. Also, to my teammates who were mad cool, and who really wanted me to get a bucket!”

Despite the limited playing time, the artist expressed genuine gratitude for the cultural exchange and the reception he received from local fans. He noted that the experience of traveling through China, particularly the efficiency of the high-speed rail system, left a lasting impression. “The biggest win is that my family and I got to experience China for the first time. The people were kind, and the cities are clean and beautiful,” he added.

Looking ahead, J. Cole has not ruled out a return to the sport. He indicated that he remains committed to maintaining his physical conditioning and is open to the possibility of playing a more extended schedule in the future, once his current touring obligations are fulfilled.
