Sean “Diddy” Combs is confronting a setback in his effort to maintain sobriety while serving time at FCI Fort Dix. This facility is known for rehabilitation programs that can allow inmates to reduce their sentences. According to recent reports from TMZ, the music mogul was allegedly found consuming homemade alcohol on prison grounds. This development could complicate both his recovery and his chances for early release.

The homemade brew reportedly consisted of Fanta, sugar, and apples, fermented over roughly two weeks. After being caught, Diddy was expected to be transferred to another unit. However, prison officials decided to allow him to remain in his current housing, offering him a second chance.

Officials’ decision may reflect the lower security classification of his unit. Yet, the incident raises concerns about Diddy’s ongoing struggle with alcohol. He has previously cited drinking as a factor in his incarceration. Just before his sentencing in October, he told Judge Arun Subramanian that he was sober for the first time in 25 years.

Rehab Progress in Question

In a heartfelt letter to the court, Diddy wrote, “The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you – I choose to live.” While relapses are not uncommon for those contending with addiction, this episode casts doubt on his progress. Additionally, it complicates the narrative of his rehabilitation.

Diddy specifically requested placement at Fort Dix to participate in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). This program can allow inmates to reduce their sentences by up to a year if they maintain good behavior. Incidents like this, however, could hinder his rehabilitation efforts and jeopardize the early release he has been pursuing.
