Pharrell Williams Named Knight Of the Legion Of Honor, France’s Highest Civilian Recognition

Pharrell Williams can add another prestigious honor to his long-list of accolades.

The multi-Grammy winner was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor in France. The recognition is  France’s highest civilian honor, “recognizing his contributions to public and cultural life.”

Williams received the honor for his trailblazing his work in fashion, particularly his role as Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director, and for his broader cultural influence. The award was announced as part of the Bastille Day celebrations.

According to a report The Straits Times  on Sunday, July 13, Williams was one of 589 people to be named knights of the Legion of Honour. 

In 2023, Williams became creative director fo Louis Vuitton’s menswear division and was the visionary behind the brand “seamlessly blending streetwear, luxury, show business, and celebrity culture.” Beyond Vuitton, he has collaborated with other LVMH brands, including releasing a limited-edition Moët & Chandon bottle and a jewelry collection for Tiffany & Co.

Since his appointment, Williams has relocated to Paris with his wife and four children

Created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, the honor  consists of five degrees that are split into three ranks, Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), and two dignities, Grand Officier (Grand Officer) and Grand Croix (Grand Cross).

ALong with being a Knight, Williams is fresh off the release of Let God Sort Em Out, the Clipse first album in 16 years. The album has garnered critical acclaim and many have hailed it as the best album of 2025.

As one half of production duo the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams helped propel Clipse to stardom, and is back on board,” Alexis Petridis wrote in his review of the project on The Guardian. “If Drake doesn’t warrant a mention, notice is nevertheless served that getting on the wrong side of Pusha T remains best avoided: on So Be It Pt II, rapper Travis Scott is eviscerated in no uncertain terms.
