Doechii Launches Mental Health Hub
Doechii has been open in the past about her struggles with depression and anxiety, and even rapped on a song about it; However, now, she’s taking things to the next level and launching a mental health hub to encourage community among her fans. On Saturday (Mar.28), the TDE rapper took to her Instagram account to announce her new initiative.
“Thank you for all of the support you’ve given my song Anxiety, now let me support YOU. Share your stories, lend a listening ear, or browse through our support communities to get the support you need anonymously,” she wrote in the post’s caption.
Per the website, Anxiety Is Watching Me is “a resource hub for people navigating anxiety.” Being that the rapper has experienced anxiety firsthand, she’s using her platform to “provide resources” that can help one find “guidance and tools” to support their mental health journey.
Doechii Remixes Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’
Earlier this month, Doechii dropped off a freestyle to Belgian-Australian musician and singer Gotye’s 2011 hit, “Somebody That I Used To Know,” titled “Anxiety.”
Using the track’s haunting 808 drums, Doechii channels all her anxious thoughts amid her meteoric rise to fame. “Solo, no mojo/I bounce back, no pogo,” she raps. Unhappy, no homo/New brands, no logos.” For the track’s visualizer, Doechii kept it simple — standing back-to-back with herself against a black and white background, as her cornrows intersect with one another, reminiscent of a performance she had on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
However, it’s the track’s chorus that truly elevates the somber track. It almost acts as a reminder to the rapper not to let her anxiety get the best of her. “Anxiety, keep on tryin’ me/ I feel it quietly,” Doechii raps in a melodic tone. “Tryin’ to silence me, yeah/ Anxiety, shake it off of me/ Somebody’s watchin’ me/ It’s my anxiety, yeah (Brrah).” The track is currently available on all streaming platforms.
