‘We Beat The Dream Team’ Doc Coming To HBO
The 1992 Dream Team is one of the greatest basketball teams ever assembled. Featuring NBA legends Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing, the team decimated their competition on the court. They won their games by an average of 44 points. But reportedly, they suffered a defeat during a scrimmage against some up-and-coming college players who finally their sharing tory.
WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM, TNT Sports and HBO Original sports documentary, takes a look at the infamous game where the best from the NBA suffered their only loss.
February 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.
The synopsis reads: “WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM reveals the little-known story of a group of college basketball players who were tasked with preparing Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and the rest of the legendary “Dream Team” for their Olympic debut in 1992.”
“In an unexpected twist, the college team, which featured Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway, Bobby Hurley, Jamal Mashburn, Allan Houston, Rodney Rogers, and Eric Montross, shocked the NBA superstars by defeating them in a scrimmage – an outcome that ultimately helped propel the Dream Team to gold.”

Directed by Michael Tolajian with rare footage from the scrimmage that was captured on a VHS tape, the doc ends all of the speculation about who really won the holly contested pickup game.
Because of the experience, several of the Select Team players went on to become superstars in their own right and achieve success off the court. Hill eventually became the USA Basketball men’s national team managing director in 2021. He was responsible for digging up the footage for the world to see.
WE BEAT THE DREAM TEAM debuts on Monday, February 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.
