Jim Jones Claims Sneaker Culture Started With Drug Dealers
Jim Jones has some interesting thoughts about the roots of sneaker culture and believes drug dealers played a massive part in it. On Friday (Jan.2), the Diplomats rapper hopped on Instagram to explain his theory. He posted a screenshot of a note that read, “Sneakers culture started wit drug dealers argue wit ur mama.” He expanded more in the comments, writing, “Who made Nike n Reebok’s fly and before tht pumas n Adidas
Michael Jordan made em but th drug dealers made me want to buy them,” he wrote.
In Jim Jones’s opinion, most basketball sneakers are no longer “fashionable.”He claims this has impacted other “sneaker companies.” He also addresses the so-called “sneakerheads,” who don’t appreciate the culture similarly. “I b watchin all these wierd dudes doing sneakers shows n sneakers reviews never had to hustle to get pair they don’t know th risk to thrill factor. Most of them never had a pair of Jordan’s when they cam out they only brought retros.”
Jim Jones and longtime girlfriend Chrissy Lampkin split after almost two decades
In other news, Jim Jones and his longtime girlfriend, Chrissy Lampkin, have officially split up. In September, Hot97 reported that the pair called it quits after a cryptic post she made on her Instagram Story. On Friday (Sept.20), Chrissy Lampkin wrote,” You and I both know [you] will never find someone like me. Good luck trying, though. I’ll have you replaced by tomorrow.” It’s unclear what prompted the post, but the pair’s relationship has a long and documented rocky history. The couple met nearly 20 years ago after a 2004 encounter in a lounge in Harlem.
In 2011, Lampkin and Jim joined the cast of Love and Hip Hop: New York. While the couple appeared to care for each other deeply, it is evident that Jim Jones often had reservations about marrying Chrissy. That said, later in the series, she proposed to the “We Fly High (Ballin’)” rapper. While he did say yes upon her getting down on one knee, the couple have yet to tie the knot. By 2021, despite being together 18 years (at the time), Lampkin seemed over the idea of marriage. On VH1’s third season of Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition, after he proposed the idea of them finally getting married, she surprisingly said “no.”
