Two Nina Simone Albums Set to Be Reissued on Vinyl This November
The unrivaled and gifted voice of Nina Simone, the High Priestess of Soul, will be heard in remastered and audiophile-grade quality this fall. The top-tier albums Pastel Blues and I Put a Spell on You, both initially released in 1965 on Phillips Records, will be reissued on 180-gram vinyl on November 6, as part of Verve and Universal Music’s new audiophile vinyl reissue series Acoustic Sounds.Â
I Put a Spell on You is the second studio album by Simone on Phillips. At 12 tracks, Simone recreates the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins-title track and the anthemic “Feeling Good,†which has transcended across music genres and generations.Â
For Pastel Blues, the follow-up to the latter classic, Simone recorded all ten tracks with a small jazz band, including “Strange Fruit.â€Â Â
According to the press release, both albums will be remastered by Ryan K. Smith and packaged by Stoughton Printing Co. in high-quality gatefold sleeves with tip-on jackets.Â
Last year, Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam†was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.Â
